He was born in Romania but moved to Switzerland with his family as a child. In addition to his career as a visual artist, he was also a set designer, dancer, and director. His extensive body of work brings together everyday objects, suggesting a use—or a post-use—in photographs, assemblages, collages, installations, and writing. His work is included in major collections, such as those of MoMA and the Tate Gallery.
