With the titles of the works in this exhibition, a poem can be written, and the poem, in turn, can become a journey. The path can be followed in different ways, even if the order of the verses modifies the verse; it changes the sense of the path, to walk among the words, to follow the movement of their spelling, to read between the lines what others write about a landscape. The titles invite us to read and imagine the words. The works invite us to walk through their gestures, to move between words that are not recognizable, to get lost between the sequences and their points, to stop in the drawings that are words and in the words that are lines. In the works, light becomes a stain, light becomes atmosphere; light is drawn, trapped between the lines.

Natalia Mendieta assumes her practice as a field diary with which she approaches and, at the same time, distances herself from her daily life. She collects forms, graphics, stains, and gestures that she reconfigures in sequences and patterns that repeat themselves, although never in the same way. In this diary, she collects words, and abstract forms from nature that she composes with the rhythm of an attentive and slow observation. In this exercise of reading, interpretation, and synthesis, Mendieta privileges the shapes of the words rather than their meanings. This is how words become forms; forms that are unreadable, but filled with meaning.

Mendieta's pictorial work moves between abstract expressionism, symbolism, and calligraphy: works typically recognized for their dynamism in gesture and composition, large-scale works created on fields of gray or variations of white, the use of abstract symbols, in this case, evident through graphics and word forms linked to texts and to the artist's interest in the relationship between thought, writing, and line.
