La Balsa arte Medellín presents a retrospective exhibition of Beatriz González's graphic work.

This exhibition, entitled "Beatriz González: la expresión gráfica  (1966 - 2022)" brings together a series of works by the artist in different graphic techniques. Her reliance on such different media as silkscreen, engraving and lithographic printing reflects the transformation of her artistic thinking and her insistence on deepening her research into graphic media as both aesthetics and means of expression.

This facet of her work reveals her interest in the idea of image reproducibility, especially in the materiality and visual effects of printing techniques. Seriality, ink stains, contours lack of definition, simplification of planes and colors, are some of these characteristics. The artist shows her interest in those images that we could call defective. In fact, some of these marks, such as flat colors and edge definition, resurface in her pictorial production.

It is no coincidence that the appropriation of images has been, from the beginning, one of her main methods in her graphic production. Thus, she has collected thousands of images from Colombian newspapers, photojournalism, tabloid chronicles, photographs from family albums, images from mass media and political events in the country, which are part of her extensive personal archive. These highlights the importance of the idea of serial image in the artist's work, but also, the way different graphic techniques offer her a unique and expressive language, which, in her body of work, acquire the same importance as other media.

Ultimately, this exhibition highlights the relevance and expressive richness of graphics in the work of Beatriz González, who has shown as, with humor and social criticism, how mass media and popular culture have crucial impact on how we build our society.
